A global leading foreign chemical company is seeking a 'Industrial Hygiene Professional' as follows

[RESPONSIBILITIES]
Provide professional industrial hygiene services to chemical manufacturing and research facilities located in Asia
This will involve direct Industrial Hygiene service support to manufacturing sites in Japan, Korea, and several of the sites in China
In addition, the position will provide Industrial Hygiene governance/oversight to all company operations (manufacturing, commercial and research) throughout Asia.
Provide professional industrial hygiene services to chemical manufacturing and research facilities located in Asia
This will involve direct Industrial Hygiene service support to manufacturing sites in Japan, Korea, and several of the sites in China
In addition, the position will provide Industrial Hygiene governance/oversight to all company operations (manufacturing, commercial and research) throughout Asia.
• Anticipate and abate health hazards in the pre-implementation stage through functional participation in capital project reviews, process change reviews and new material introduction reviews.
• Assess hazards using investigative exposure assessment techniques (application of the corporate qualitative exposure assessment toolkit as well as traditional industrial hygiene quantitative exposure assessment methodologies).
• Proactively manage risk through consultative site support relating to use of inherently safer materials, engineering controls, work practices, training and personal protective equipment ensembles.
• Develop and maintain site and corporate industrial hygiene standards.
• Assure that sites are maintaining compliance to industrial hygiene regulatory requirements and implementing new requirements as they are identified.
• Provide expert training on health hazards and control to all audiences, and expert training on industrial hygiene methodologies to key site contacts.
• Assess hazards using investigative exposure assessment techniques (application of the corporate qualitative exposure assessment toolkit as well as traditional industrial hygiene quantitative exposure assessment methodologies).
• Proactively manage risk through consultative site support relating to use of inherently safer materials, engineering controls, work practices, training and personal protective equipment ensembles.
• Develop and maintain site and corporate industrial hygiene standards.
• Assure that sites are maintaining compliance to industrial hygiene regulatory requirements and implementing new requirements as they are identified.
• Provide expert training on health hazards and control to all audiences, and expert training on industrial hygiene methodologies to key site contacts.
• Participate in Responsible Care audit programs as a specialist industrial hygiene and/or safety auditor.
• Enhance company's reputation and improve industry worker health protection performance by actively participating in regional endeavors to implement the chemical industry's Responsible Care initiative.
• Support merger, acquisition and divestiture projects with industrial hygiene due diligence services.
• Participate in root cause investigation process as "corporate" representative on the team or as a consultant for significant incidents relating to health outcomes.
• Interface with external customers in the Asia region pertaining to requests for safe handling guidance on products
• Supervise local industrial hygiene technician resource, if applicable.
• Enhance company's reputation and improve industry worker health protection performance by actively participating in regional endeavors to implement the chemical industry's Responsible Care initiative.

[QUALIFICATIONS]
• Practical experience of EHS management system implementation, meeting the requirements of the RC14001 standards. Requirements of the Safety Management System.
• Good Industrial Hygiene and safety legal and regulatory expertise for China, Japan, Korea. The role is expected to maintain and further develop this regulatory knowledge.
• Experience of Industrial Hygiene and Safety auditing is essential, and a formal qualification in this is desirable.
• Expertise in risk assessment using the company risk assessment/risk registry process.
• Expertise in EHSS reviews for capital projects. Must be able to independently assess proposed projects and ensure that Industrial Hygiene and safety risks and impacts are identified and adequately mitigated.
• Must be fluent in English, both written and spoken.
• A degree in Industrial Hygiene or an allied health science or engineering discipline is required, together with practical experience working within the chemical or allied industries in an EHS focused role.
• Considerable breadth and depth of knowledge pertaining to the hazards of occupational exposure to chemical, physical and biological agents.
• Solid knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations.
• Demonstrated ability to apply professional judgment to exposure estimation in absence of measurement data.
• Demonstrated ability to design, conduct and document quantitative worker exposure assessments.
• Demonstrated ability to define risk-based exposure mitigation controls.
• Skilled at positioning risk management control plans within an enterprise to achieve support for implementation.
• Impeccable track record of commitment to the ethical standards required in the professional practice of industrial hygiene.
• Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work with significant independence in defining daily work activities.
• Certification in the professional practice of Industrial Hygiene (e.g., CIH, ROH, RPH) strongly preferred.
